PRODUCTION OF HIGH QUALITY FOODS
The revival of highly nutritious traditional Andean food production, such as quinoa, kiwicha and maca, brings improved nutrition to malnourished villagers.

Needs
Purchase of seeds. Maca seed ($30/lb). Agriculture consultants and advisors.

GREENHOUSE AGRICULTURE
Families can grow vegetables in small greenhouses to improve nutritional consumption and food security.

Needs
Greenhouses in remote villages ($25 per family).

REFORESTATION
The planting of native vegetation improves soil and watersheds, and provides firewood and timber for villagers. Young students in rural schools learn to care for and plant seedlings that are provided by the Instituto Machu Picchu, a Peruvian conservation organization that is a partner with Heart Walk Foundation.

TROUT FARMING
Small-scale trout production adds protein to the potato-based diet of villagers.

Needs
Training of villagers, equipment, baby trout, and trout food to total $1300 annually per village.

ELDERLY FOOD PROGRAM
Unable to do the intense manual labor of farming potatoes, the elderly depend on younger villagers to share their meager food.

Needs
Sponsorship for elderly purchases quinoa, oats, wheat, salt, cooking oil, and other survival necessities ($100 per year).
