Hailey and Savannah En Route to Q’eros

As you read this, Hailey and Savvy Madsen are flying to Peru with their dad, Jason, where they will join board member Malynda Madsen. This expedition team will acclimate to the high altitude for a few days before taking a 4×4 into a remote region of the Andes to evaluate the Sanitation and Solar Showers project. These two teens have been raising funds for bathrooms and showers for all families in the region.

THANK YOU to everyone who joined this campaign in recent weeks leading up to their departure. To date Hailey has raised a whopping $45,238.55. We are only $4762 away from providing every Q´ero family with essential sanitation services.

Families have been working hard for this project, starting with the long process of making adobes, digging trenches and building the facilities from the foundation up. They only lack the economic resources to buy cement and thermal water equipment. You can help!

Message from a Past Board Member

David Jamieson served on the board of Heart Walk Foundation off and on for two decades. Currently resigned from our board, he continues to be of service, helping with our accounting questions and responding to our newsletters with encouragement and praise. On a recent trip to Peru he introduced our field director, Bertha, to his tour guide and group of 8.

David wrote, “When our tour guide, Billy, saw the textiles that night he was very impressed with their quality and was quite touched by Heart Walk’s mission. After Bertha’s presentation about the Q’ero people, folks purchased many textiles from her directly. I sat in the hotel room quite teary eyed over the entire magical experience. I am so happy to be engaged with Heart Walk Foundation again.”

When David learned that Bertha had a stockpile of textiles in Peru awaiting import, he arranged to get dozens of beautiful textiles brought to the US for our online www.tribalstore.org. Look for new inventory coming soon!

Meet our New Board Member

We are happy to announce Tawnya Kirkland, former volunteer, has joined our board of directors. Tawnya has served Heart Walk Foundation in many capacities over the last decade. “One of my earliest contributions was designing the organization’s logo. I also created an art installation for an annual fundraising gala, framing children’s handprints alongside a child’s photo and story to create an emotional centerpiece. On the logistical side, I’ve helped manage the tribal store and sat on a marketing and communication committee. I’ve even had the opportunity to travel to Peru to help source textiles directly from our artisan partners.”
