Q’ero youth returned to school confident and prepared this month, thanks to your donations of notebooks, pencils, and crayons. In Peru it is customary for the parents of school children to provide school supplies throughout the year, but there are no stores in Q’ero communities and economic resources are minimal. Your donation of $10 sponsors one child for the entire year.

The first day of school begins with a “welcome back” ceremony, where teachers greet their students with song and dance and toss rice over their heads as they parade through the school yard gates to their institutions. Watch the adorable video of this year’s “welcome back” on March 17th.

Bertha delivers classroom materials and school supplies.

Your donations bring confidence to Q’ero students and their communities.

Heart Walk Foundation is committed to helping Q’ero youth pursue their education. We commit to providing school supplies for every child and food for school lunches in the high schools to ease the burden to families. You can donate now to provide the next distribution of food staples for the cafeterias, or visit our tribalstore.org to purchase a set of photo gift cards — each card costs $10 and sponsors one Q’ero youth. Cards include a photo of a child receiving their supplies with an acknowledgment of the sponsorship on the back.

Q’ero families remind us to thank you for the cuy project that you funded in 2023. The cuyes are multiplying and bringing great blessings to each family. The project of raising cuyes has proven to be practical, sustainable, and enjoyable. We should’ve thought of it sooner!

Sending you warm gratitude from all of the Q’ero youth whose lives you have affected greatly with even the smallest of donations.

Last year was a very productive year, and we’re riding the momentum into 2024.

The Cuy Project is Underway

Q’ero families in three communities have begun the first phase of the cuy project by choosing large blocks of land to plant grass pastures. Each family installed fencing and tilled the land to plant grass seed in time for the rainy season. Each family sends you gratitude for your generous gifts.
