Urgent Winter Relief for Q’ero Families

Heavy snows have recently struck the high Andes, bringing harsh conditions to families in the Q’ero communities. As the snow begins to melt, many homes have flooded, forcing families to sleep wherever they can find dry space — often crowded into their small kitchen huts or staying with neighbors.

The weight of the snow has caused straw roofs of alpaca barns to collapse, leaving their herds exposed to the cold. Many baby alpacas have not survived the freezing temperatures — a heartbreaking loss for families who depend on their herds for warmth, weaving, and livelihood.

Right now, we are working to provide thick wool blankets to families most affected by the storms. These blankets can save lives, bringing warmth during freezing Andean nights.
