Sanitation Project on Track for Completion!
We are excited to share that our sanitation and solar shower project is nearing completion in Quico village. The foundations have been completed, the walls have been constructed, and all of the solar shower units have been ordered and many have already been installed. We are now approaching the final phases of construction as 60 families prepare to install the roofs on each bathroom.
Help Families Complete Their Bathrooms
Thanks to you, we raised more than half of the total budget for this project during our Giving Tuesday campaign last December. Since then, we have also been blessed to receive monthly support from an anonymous donor, a $3,000 pledge from Vacaville Rotary Club, and several heartfelt cards containing generous gifts. To each of you who has contributed, whether publicly or quietly, thank you. Your kindness is transforming lives.
Today, we are less than $4,000 away from fully funding bathrooms for all 60 families in the community of Quico. Together, we can put the finishing touches on the Solar Shower and Sanitation Project.

With every step, these facilities become more than just structures—they represent improved health, privacy, safety, and dignity for the families who will use them every day. Having access to a private toilet and a warm shower can dramatically improve quality of life, particularly for children, elders, and women living in the high Andes.
Since the end of the rainy season, families have been hard at work.
Emergency Relief Update for Q’ero Families
Because of your generosity, we raised $3,000 specifically to assist the families affected by the recent tragedy in the Q’ero community of Hapu. Thank you for responding so quickly with such compassion.
Immediatly following the tragedy, Bertha purchased and distributed essential food staples to the widowed families and those affected. Approximately $1,000 was used to provide bulk food provisions and cover the costs of purchasing and delivering these supplies.
As we remained in close contact with affected community members, we learned that multiple relief efforts from different organizations and individuals were also reaching the communities. For that reason, Bertha and our board made the decision to reserve the remaining funds for longer-term support for the affected families rather than distribute everything immediately.
On Friday, July 24th, our team is visiting these families with another food distribution and assessing how we can help them stay in their home communities. We are connected with local leaders, and will monitor each family’s needs and provide assistance at times when it can be most helpful. We’ll continue to keep you informed as to how the remaining funds are used.
